Hertz Car Rental in Graz
You’ll find the city of Graz in south-eastern Austria. It’s about 120 miles south of Vienna, and 40 miles north of the Slovenian border. If you pick up a rental car in Graz, you’ll find it’s a large, thriving city. In fact, it’s Austria’s second-largest. Graz stands on the River Mur but is very hilly, and is surrounded by heavily wooded hills. Some of the peaks are worth visiting for their spectacular views over the city. A short drive outside Graz you’ll be able to visit the Lurgrotte, Austria’s most extensive caves; the natural spas of the Thermenregion and the impregnable Riegersburg fortress.
The character of Graz is partly determined by its historic Old Town – and partly by the fact that it has six university faculties. If you have a rental car here you’ll be able to explore the Old Town, a World Heritage Site, and more modern sights, such as the extraordinary riverside Kunsthaus modern art gallery that looks like a giant alien creature. Look out too for Murinsel, a man-made steel island in the river containing a café, theatre and playground. The Old Town itself is a network of old streets and stairways rising up the slopes towards the castle. Wander around and you’ll find more than 1000 historic buildings in this picturesque quarter.
