With a rental car it’s easy to tour the different types of landscapes and attractions in Germany. Most visitors start with at least one of the major cities. The capital, Berlin has world-class attractions like the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and the remains of the Wall. Munich, with its historic centre, is the main base for touring the southern Bavarian region. Other major tourist cities include Dresden, Heidelberg, Lubeck, Lindau and Cologne. Away from the cities, the north coast has interesting seaside resorts and islands to visit, while the south has romantic wooden villages and fairy-tale castles amid the mountains, lakes and forests.
