Hertz Car Rental in Venice
Venice, the capital of North East Italy’s Veneto region, is famous for its canals and bridges. But what is perhaps less well known is that the main part of the city, the ‘Sestien’ is built on 118 small islands. The restrictions imposed by the lagoon mean that Venice has remained virtually unchanged for 600 years. At the centre is the beautiful Saint Mark’s Basilica, with its colonnaded square and bell tower, which offers spectacular views of the city and the lagoon. There’s also the Jewish ghetto with its shops and restaurants and the Rialto with its famous bridge. Although you don’t need to rent a car in Venice to get around the city, it will help if you want to travel further inland.
First established in the year 827, Venice offers lots of architectural delights, including the Venetian Gothic Doge’s palace and Ca’ d’Oro, the baroque Ca’ Pesaro and Ca’ Rezzonico and the renaissance palaces of Balbi and Grimani. There’s also the famous opera house of La Fenice, which hosted the premiers of operas by Verdi and Rossini. Hire a car in Venice and you can explore the other treasures of Veneto, like the villas of the Riviera de Brenta, the botanical gardens of Padua and Padova, or the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Vicenza. If you’re staying a while, you could even drive up to the shores of Lake Garda.
