Hertz Car Rental in Leiden
Leiden is a very attractive Dutch town with two main claims to fame. The first is that it was the birthplace, in 1606, of the artist Rembrandt; and the second is that it is home to the Netherlands’ oldest university that was founded in 1574. Much of Leiden’s wealth was built on the linen industry and today it is home to the headquarters of the pan-European aviation organisation, Airbus Group. With many grand buildings dating back to its economic heyday in the 17th century as well as a network of canals it’s a very pleasant place to explore at any time of year – rent a car in Leiden and see for yourself.
Look out for the very high steeple in Leiden and it will lead you to Pieterskerk, the 14th century church at the heart of the town which is one of the oldest buildings you will find there. In the 17th century the pilgrims who eventually set off aboard the Mayflower for America spent some time in Leiden; the small Leiden American Pilgrim Museum is located in the house where a number of them lived, and is furnished with objects from the period. Renting a car in Leiden will also mean that you’ll be able to visit the exciting port city of Rotterdam that is only around 30 minutes’ drive away.
